Get the materials
You will need a fast universal glue (e.g. Loctite 60 sec. All-Purpose Glue), a pencil, jigsaw, compass, sheet of sandpaper, electric drill, a 5mm drill bit, cloth, brush, paint tray, twelve wooden spoons, safety gloves, ruler, piece of solid wood, clock system, 12 different coloured paints, masking tape and two clamps.
Draw a circle
Place the piece of solid wood on a table and find the centre by drawing two diagonal lines on it. Once you have the center, draw a 30 cm circle using a compass.
Cut the piece
Holding the wooden piece firmly with the clamps and wearing the safety gloves, cut the wood with the jigsaw following the line of the circle. Have patience, cutting circles is not always the easiest, but you are definitely capable!
Pierce the centre
Take the 5 mm drill bit and drill a hole in the centre of the circle.
Smooth the piece
Smooth the edges of the piece using the sandpaper and then clean them with the cloth. This will make the painting process easier!
Divide the circle
With the metal ruler, divide the circle into twelve equal parts. Each part will define an hour section.
Cover the lines
Cover the lines with the masking tape to make sure the other parts don't get painted with the wrong colour. Not to worry if paint gets splattered! Simply wait for it to dry and move forward with a new colour!
Paint the parts
With the brush, paint inside each section. Try to use colours that contrast with the adjacent sections, so the difference between them will be clear.
Cover the wooden spoons
Take the wooden spoons and cover halfway up the top of them with masking tape, dividing them in two.
Paint the wooden spoons
Paint all the wooden spoons in the same colours as the hour sections. Let them dry.
Install the clock system
Install the clock system on the back of the wooden piece. You've come so far!
Glue the spoons to the circle
When dry, apply one thin bead of a fast universal glue (e.g. Loctite 60 sec. All-Purpose Glue) to the handle of the wooden spoons and press them against the centre piece, holding for up to 60 seconds. Make sure your clock hands will still be able to move around the spoon handles, as you don't want them to halt the movement of the clock.
Hang the clock
Hang the clock on the wall et voilà! You have a useful and decorative DIY wall clock to fill your kitchen with beautiful colours while telling the time. This serves as a great housewarming gift as well! Give an extra colourful boost to your kitchen with this kitchen towel hanger.
