Make a decorative mirror with plastic spoons
A nice mirror to check your reflection every morning!
No idea what to do with all those spoons left from your last birthday party? What about learning how to decorate a mirror frame with plastic spoons? A creative and unique touch for your bedroom wall.
WHAT YOU NEED
- A fast universal glue (e.g. Loctite 60 sec. All-Purpose Glue)
- Mirror with wooden frame
- 100 plastic spoons
- Coloured spray paint
- Masking tape
Get the Materials
You will need a fast universal glue (e.g. Loctite 60 sec. All-Purpose Glue), a mirror with wooden frame, 100 plastic spoons (cannot be made of Polyethylene or Polypropylene), coloured spray paint, a cutter, sandpaper, masking tape, newspaper and a cloth.
Sand and clean the frame of the mirror
Remove the dirt and dust from the frame. To ensure good adhesion of the glue, sand the entire surface with sandpaper and then wipe it with a cloth.
Cut the spoons
Position your spoons on your table. Using a cutter, cut off the handle of each spoon. Make sure to have a trivet or a cutting board on the table to avoid any damage to the table. We know that cutting so many spoons can be tough, but at least you'll be a spoon cutting pro when you finish!
Stick the spoons I
Apply a drop of fast universal glue (e.g. Loctite 60 sec. All-Purpose Glue) to the middle of the back side of each spoon.
Stick on the spoons II
Then, stick the spoons onto the wood, applying pressure and holding each spoon for 60 seconds. Starting from the outside, arrange the spoons in circles, creating a flower pattern. Let it cure for at least one hour. Looks great!
Protect the mirror
Cut a piece of wrapping paper of the same size as the mirror and stick it with masking tape, covering all the mirror - or the shape you want to have. This will protect the mirror from paint. We will go for a smaller circle.
Paint the spoons
If you want to paint the spoons on your mirror, we suggest to use spray paint. Choose your favourite colour and paint the spoons so that they go well with your bedroom décor. Do this in a well-ventilated space and try to avoid breathing in the fumes from the aerosol.
Hang it on the wall
Allow the spoons to dry for 12 hours. Now you can hang your plastic spoon mirror in your bedroom, giving it a new practical and decorative touch. Aren't you proud of yourself? Now that you know how to decorate a mirror frame, hang a coat rack next to it and you'll have all you need to succeed!
