Fix a hinge
See how easy it is to fix your door hinge in the blink of an eye!
Frequently used furniture usually breaks first in the hinge area. But don't worry; doing a door hinge repair can be very easy! This project will show you how.
WHAT YOU NEED
- White paint
- Putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty)
- Latex gloves
Get the Materials
You will need latex gloves, white paint, putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty), a screwdriver, a cutter, a brush and sandpaper.
Disassemble and remove
Disassemble your hinge and remove it from the door.
Clean the broken part
Clean the broken part with a dry brush to remove the remains of loose chipboard.
Mix the repair paste
Using the latex gloves, cut off some of the Putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty) and mix it until the colour becomes uniform.
Fill and rebuild
Fill and rebuild the broken part. Don’t worry if there’s some excess product, because all the parts can be sanded afterwards.
Remove the excess
Remove excess product using the cutter, or you can sand all the parts afterwards.
Sand it for a perfect finish. As you’ll see, the paste is like a piece of wood (even more resistant), but makes it easier to position the hinge in the hole.
Paint to match the colour!
Paint it to match the door colour. As soon as the paint is dry, you can put your hinge back on the door again. After a door hinge repair, the door knob needs a bit of a fix too, find out how you can make it perfect again!
