It's pretty straightforward to do if you follow these simple steps on how to repair a hole in a drywall. The result will make you forget your wall ever had a crack.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty)
- Acrylic wall paint
- Paint brush
- Paint tray
- Masking tape
Get the materials
You will need Putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty), acrylic wall paint, a cutter, a trowel , a paint brush, a paint tray, a masking tape, sandpaper and a cloth.
Protect the door frame
You already have a hole in the wall, you don't want to damage the door frame too. So, with masking tape, protect the part of the wooden doorframe in contact with the section with the crack that you're going to repair.
Remove the crack
Using the cutter, make two cuts in the shape of a “V” along the entire crack to remove it. It must be wide enough to detach all the cracked plaster and deep enough to remove the crack, creating a gap in its place. The groove must not be less than 5 mm deep.
Clean the surface
To remove the dirt and dust after cutting the crack, wipe the area with a cloth to leave it ready to be glued.
Prepare the product
Remove the protective plastic from the product and cut the required amount of paste using the cutter knife. Knead it with your hands until you obtain a uniform colour.
Fill the crack
Using putty filler (e.g. UniBond Repair Express Power Putty), apply a generous amount to the inside of the gap that you've just opened. Make sure that there is enough product to cover it completely once it's been smoothed over.
Level the surface
Using the trowel, level the material so that it fills the entire gap and is flush with the wall. Give it time to cure and come back to it the next day! After using the trowel, you can also sand the surface to make it smooth.
Paint the wall
Using the acrylic wall paint and the paint brush and tray, paint the entire surface again. Give it two or three coats if necessary, to make it the same colour as the rest of the wall. Let it dry for 24 hours.
Let it dry
Let the wall dry for 24 hours and enjoy the relief of passing through the door and not seeing any crack on the wall. It's a miracle made possible by learning how to repair a hole in a drywall! You know what else is a miracle? To replace your burnt carpet in an unnoticeable way!
